All Day, Every Day…

Autism Every Day

From Autism Speaks:

Autism Every Day

Autism Every Day is a new film produced by Lauren Thierry and Jim Watkins of October Group and Eric Solomon of Milestone Video. The film was screened at A New Decade for Autism, a fundraising event held May 9, 2006 in New York City, and subsequently broadcast by Don Imus on his show on MSNBC.

(Requires Windows Media Player, though Mac users may want to download Windows Media® Components for QuickTime, by Flip4Mac™, so you can play Windows Media files (.wma and .wmv) directly in QuickTime Player).

For people without a close family member afflicted with autism, it will give you a small glimpse of the reality of life with autism… For those of you with one, it will bring you to tears, as it did me.

*sigh*

The Fun Never Ends…

Thermometer Sorry it’s been so long since I last posted here, but it’s been one thing after another here lately… and another, and another, and another, and another, and another.

My 38th birthday was on February 18th… I don’t mind getting older, as I equate age with life experience, but it is kind of freaky to be 2 years away from being 40. I’m sure I’ll get over it though. *lol*

We got Christopher’s ashes back, and I still need to make up a memorial web page for him. His death also hit me a lot harder than I thought it would, as I’ve been feeling a little low lately, and finally traced it back to my feelings over his death. Hopefully when we get around to adopting a new cat from KittiCo it will help raise my spirits. I know Gus will be happy to have a brother, who is not elderly & frail, to play with.

The whole household was laid low with the flu two weeks ago… It was the kind of flu where you’re either vomiting, or running to the bathroom because you have the trots from hell, but thankfully it was never both at the same time. Thank the Gods! Morgan, of course had it first, since he was the one to bring it home from school. I came down with it next, then Pookey. Morgan was home from school for almost the entire week, which sucked because it was the week before his spring vacation. (Doesn’t that figure?) Pookey was home from work for the entire week, and his employers were extremely lucky that he can work from home because there was no way he could have made it into work. The fun highlights of this illness include having to change Morgan’s bed 3 times for various reasons that I am sure you can imagine for yourself, including the night where we thought he was asking to be tucked into bed, but he had actually thrown up all over it. *sigh* Plus, it was one of those flus that totally wipes you out, and it takes you weeks to fully recover from it. I’m still tired.

As I mentioned above Morgan had his spring vacation last week, and finally went back to school today. Yaaaaaaay!!!!! Unfortunately he got used to staying up way too late, so he didn’t get to sleep until late last night, so he’ll be dragging his ass when he comes home from school. With any luck he’ll end up going to bed early tonight.

Still Missing Him After All These Years…

Bull Today is the 6th anniversary of Bull Pole Cat’s death. *sigh* Bull came from one of the litters my father’s cat had, and he adopted me as soon as he got his independence from his mom. He would lay on me, with his head near my own, when I watched TV, and slept tucked up by my side every night. He always took advantage of any opportunity he had to be close to me, and I miss that a lot. He was definitely a kindred spirit.

All of the cats (Bull was 13, Tasmyn 11 & Christopher 9 years old) were very freaked out when Morgan was born, since they had been in a childless household for so long. Though Bull got over it the soonest, since Morgan slept between Pookey & I for the first 10 weeks of his life because I was exclusively breastfeeding him. The only problem we had was that the first few times Bull joined the 3 of us in bed was that he ended up laying on Morgan’s legs, but I nipped that quickly in the bud. I’m sure that Bull was jealous that Morgan had usurped his place in my bed, but he wasn’t ever mean to him because of it. Bull was a very sweet cat, and didn’t have an evil bone in his body. Still, I wasn’t ever careless when it came to the cats being around newborn Morgan, as you can never be entirely sure what animals may do, even ones you know well. Plus, the fact that Morgan weighed less than any of the cats added to my vigilance.

IMHO, there is some magical quality that orange cats have… Bull was the main reason why I chose to adopt Gus, another orange cat, in the first place. I have to say that my relationship with Gus has just added to my theory that orange cats are special. Though, there will never be another cat exactly like Bull in my life ever again.

Can’t Get Enough!!!

Barry White Last month, while I was at the dentist, Pookey was watching TV when a commercial came on that used Barry White’s “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” as its music… Morgan who had been playing with his toys in the livingroom stopped what he was doing, and demanded to see/hear the commercial again. (Isn’t Tivo wonderful?) After the third encore of the commercial it was evident that Morgan had found a song he liked. Pookey told me all about it when he picked me up after the dentist was done torturing me. I had a good laugh, even though I was in pain from the damned root canal I just had.

A few days later I went and bought a copy of it online, and imported it into Morgan’s iTunes. He listens to it often… It never fails to crack me up that Morgan - a 7 year old boy with autism - likes this song, though I know he has no concept what it’s about. I think he probably just likes the sound of Barry White’s voice. *lol*

A Sigh Of Relief…

Back To School On Thursday Morgan returned to school after his two week winter vacation… Thank the Gods!!! He is a very, very busy boy, constantly moving from one activity to another, so the house always ends up looking like a hurricane has blown through it after one of his vacations. Our livingroom has way too many toys in it, and his bedroom is a disaster area. *sigh* I haven’t found the motivation to do a major clean up yet, but it’ll get done, when it gets done. Hopefully. At least Morgan is back at school!!!
