Finally!!!

Cat brusshing its teeth It’s finally happening… JuJu is starting to lose his baby teeth!!! Today I noticed that his adult canines are starting to come down, and they will soon push his baby teeth out. He’s also losing some of his insisors, and I’m sure his molars will soon follow. The funny thing about a cat losing its baby teeth is that you never find them lying around… They must get sucked into the same dimension that lost socks get sucked into, or else the cat just swallows them. Who knows? I’m just glad to see his his baby teeth go since they are waaaaaay too sharp, and he has a fetish for attacking and biting feet. *sigh* The things I have to put up with!

Chomp!!!

Juju biting Ash's big toe

Yes, that’s Julius (aka "JuJu") biting my big toe while I was trying to get some decent pictures of him. He’ll be 5 months old at the end of the month, and he continues to grow like a proverbial weed. I cannot wait until he starts loosing his baby teeth, as they are way too sharp now… Thankfully that should be very soon. As you can see from the picture below, his eyes have turned out to be amber, not green like I had hoped. Oh well. He has started sleeping next to me when I turn in for the night, and in the morning when I wake, he cuddles up with me, and purrs like a buzz saw. He’s a wonderful cat other than that whole biting/attacking feet fetish he has. His favorite practice is to lay in wait under the bed hidden by the bedskirt, then when you walk past, or are making the bed he pounces. *sigh* Damned cat.

Although he looks full grown in these pictures, he is far from it. He’s still half the size of Gus, but as I said above he’s growing like a proverbial weed… Which translates to going through LOTS of cat food, and LOTS of cleaning of the litter box. Fun, fun, fun. (I highly recommend the litter box I currently have… I’ve had it for well over 5 years now, and it is the easiest litter box I’ve ever found to clean in my 25+ years of being a cat servant!) Unfortunately for JuJu, Morgan is still able to easily carry him around, so he’ll grab JuJu in his arms, and race for his bedroom so he can play with him there. Something he can’t do with Gus any longer because he’s too heavy for Morgan to safely carry without giving himself a hernia. With any luck, for JuJu, when he reaches his full adult weight he’ll be heavy enough to discourage Morgan from kidnapping him any longer.

Remember: Do not meddle in the affairs of cats, for they are subtle and will pee on your computer keyboard, and anything not nailed down is a cat toy…

Name…

Orange Our new kitten finally has a name! Julius, or Jules/Jude for short. I know, I know… He’s orange, and his name is Julius, but the name fits him. It took a while to find his name, and I compiled a list of the top 12 names I liked. They are/were:

  1. Julius
  2. Marius
  3. Tiberius
  4. Sirius
  5. Griffin
  6. Jackson
  7. Dylan
  8. Marley
  9. Aries
  10. Rowan
  11. Asher
  12. Mac

For a short while I thought we might end up calling him Aries, but it didn’t feel right. So I left it for a day, or two, and Julius kept coming to mind when I thought about what his name should be.

I am still amazed at how quickly he’s settled into our home, and even Gus has grudgingly accepted him. They’ve started chasing, and playing, with one another, though Julius has quite a size disadvantage. It’s cute the way such a small guy launches himself at Gus who is so much bigger than he is. He’s brought happiness into our home, and we’ll gladly take all of it we can get.

My New Pussy!!!

Kitten Now that I have your attention, I’d like to tell you about the kitten we just adopted from KittiCo Cat Rescue. *lol* I finally got enough emotional distance from Christopher’s death, in early February, to feel up to getting a new cat, so I went to a mobile adoption that KittiCo (the same organization I adopted Augustus from) had yesterday, and was able to find a cat I wanted to adopt. It was a big surprise to me that I ended up with another orange/marmalade cat, since I was looking to adopt one of a different color, but this little guy snagged my heart from the get go. I was utterly doomed when I asked to hold him, and he started purring like a maniac, played with me for a while, then fell asleep in my arms.

I shrewdly went alone, because Morgan would have just added chaos into a situation that did not need it, so he was left home with Pookey… Plus, the allure of Petco is too much for Morgan to ignore, and he always runs us ragged as he goes through the entire store looking at all the animals. *sigh* He was really excited when I finally came home with the kitten, and proceeded to play with him non-stop, to the extent we had to finally shoo him away when the kitten wanted to nap. Sadly, Morgan ended up being over-stimulated by the whole kitten experience, and, boy, were we glad when his bedtime rolled around!

I’m actually shocked at how quickly the kitten settled into our household, and don’t have any doubts that he is the right cat for us. The kitten has gotten over being "hissy" with Gus, and wants to start playing with him, but Gus is still a little "hissy" with him. You can see that they want to be together, but their feline instincts are keeping them apart. Gus has been hanging around near the kitten, but is still keeping his distance, though that distance continually shrinks. I have no doubts that they will be fast friends as soon as they accept each other.

Now, we need to think of a name for the kitten, and are trying to decide if we want to go the Roman emperor name route, as we did with Gus, or go off in another direction. Decisions, decisions… *sigh*

The Fun Never Ends…

Thermometer Sorry it’s been so long since I last posted here, but it’s been one thing after another here lately… and another, and another, and another, and another, and another.

My 38th birthday was on February 18th… I don’t mind getting older, as I equate age with life experience, but it is kind of freaky to be 2 years away from being 40. I’m sure I’ll get over it though. *lol*

We got Christopher’s ashes back, and I still need to make up a memorial web page for him. His death also hit me a lot harder than I thought it would, as I’ve been feeling a little low lately, and finally traced it back to my feelings over his death. Hopefully when we get around to adopting a new cat from KittiCo it will help raise my spirits. I know Gus will be happy to have a brother, who is not elderly & frail, to play with.

The whole household was laid low with the flu two weeks ago… It was the kind of flu where you’re either vomiting, or running to the bathroom because you have the trots from hell, but thankfully it was never both at the same time. Thank the Gods! Morgan, of course had it first, since he was the one to bring it home from school. I came down with it next, then Pookey. Morgan was home from school for almost the entire week, which sucked because it was the week before his spring vacation. (Doesn’t that figure?) Pookey was home from work for the entire week, and his employers were extremely lucky that he can work from home because there was no way he could have made it into work. The fun highlights of this illness include having to change Morgan’s bed 3 times for various reasons that I am sure you can imagine for yourself, including the night where we thought he was asking to be tucked into bed, but he had actually thrown up all over it. *sigh* Plus, it was one of those flus that totally wipes you out, and it takes you weeks to fully recover from it. I’m still tired.

As I mentioned above Morgan had his spring vacation last week, and finally went back to school today. Yaaaaaaay!!!!! Unfortunately he got used to staying up way too late, so he didn’t get to sleep until late last night, so he’ll be dragging his ass when he comes home from school. With any luck he’ll end up going to bed early tonight.
