An Apple A Day...

Why You’d Love a Mac

We’ve been an Apple Computer family since St. Patrick’s day in 1995… That day we had an awesome lunch at the Portsmouth Brewery (I miss that place SO MUCH!), and then hit the Apple store that used to be a couple doors down from it, on the corner of Market, and Hanover, Street. Unfortunately that Apple store location didn’t last too long, just a couple of years. *sighs* Still, it was there long enough for us to get our first Apple computer, a Macintosh Performa 6115CD. That was also the computer that got us on the internet for the first time. Looking back, those early Mac/internet days sure were fun, and exciting.

After the Macintosh Performa 6115CD (60 MHz) we got a Motorola Starmax 3240 (240 MHz) in 1997, then a Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver, 733 MHz) in 2001, and in May of 2008 I got my current computer, a 24" Apple iMac (3.06GHz).

The Power Mac G4 lasted longer than any of my other Macs, almost 7 whole years, and I actually was thinking of just upgrading the processor in it when we decided to just get a new Mac because of the Intel processor they now had.

Other than 4 additional Apple computers we purchased simply because we got sick of having to share a computer – A 14.1" PowerPC G3 iBook (800MHz), and a 24" Apple iMac (3.06GHz) for Pookey, and two Mac Minis (1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 & 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) for Morgan – that’s all the computers we’ve had since 1995.

The second Mac Mini we bought for Morgan was only recently purchased because he couldn’t play Portal (via Steam… The program was Mac Intel only.) on his G4, and was using Pookey’s iMac a lot to play it. Otherwise he’d still be using his G4 Mac Mini. Sharing a computer with Morgan sucks big time, as he wants to use the computer the exact moment he wants to use the computer, and getting him to wait his turn is an exercise in parental insanity. lol.

So I’ve basically just had 4 computers in the last 15 years… A Window’s PC user certainly can’t claim that achievement. Apple computers may cost a bit more than PCs with all the same bells, and whistles, but they last a lot longer, which is why I won’t purchase any other computer. They are definitely worth the price they cost.
