Mastering the Art of French Cooking

Pookey, and I, watched Julie & Julia tonight, and, of course, the cooking bug bit me in the ass. I finally got around to making up the carrot cake recipe I’ve been wanting to make. It’s baking in the oven as I write. Hopefully it’ll turn out as yummy as it’s promised to be. *knocks on wood*

Inspired by the movie, I ordered Mastering the Art of French Cooking (2 Volume Set). This boxed set brings together Mastering the Art of French Cooking, first published in 1961, and its sequel, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume Two, published in 1970. I can’t wait to get them!

When I was 14, or 15, I borrowed Mastering the Art of French Cooking from the public library, and ended up making the Boeuf Bourguignon. From what I can remember (keep in mind this was 27/28 years ago… lol) it didn’t turn out too badly. Boeuf Bourguignon is basically a beef stew in red wine, with bacon, onions, and mushrooms. You can find Julia’s recipe for it here. I definitely plan on making this for my family soon. Morgan won’t eat it, but that just means there’ll be more for Pookey, and I.
