Crocodile Hunter…
Steve Irwin: I never liked him. Didn’t like how he exploited, and harassed the animals he featured. Definitely didn’t like how many clones of his style of dealing with animals seemed to pop up after he got popular. Him, and his clones, were the main reason I stopped watching Animal Planet. I love animals, and just couldn’t stand to watch how he treated them. It made my blood boil! Whatever happened to the PBS style wildlife documentary? You got to see how the animal lived, but there was a tangible respect for the animal’s right to be left alone that was apparent in every minute of it. It’s sad that today’s public wants to watch animals being harassed, instead of enjoying the sight of them as they live their lives in peace.
I’ve thought for years that it was just a matter of time until he bit off more than he could chew, so his death doesn’t surprise me all that much. What is surprising is that it didn’t happen sooner. He’s been asking for it for years. Not that I ever wished him ill. Far from it. The risks that he took to keep people entertained was just too much, and it ultimately cost him his life. A truly sad end.
