Hell Week Update 3…
Please note: I highly recommend that you first read the original post about "Hell Week" here, the first update on it here, and the second update here (it’s the post before this one) before reading this post.
Pookey sent a letter to PISD requesting a copy of the report on the incident where Morgan wandered away from school, and received a reply from them on Tuesday. Here’s what they had to say:
November 22, 2005
Mr. Shaffer,
In response to your request for a copy of the Investigation Report, we are requesting clarification regarding your request. Portions of the exhibits that accompany the report include information that may be excepted from disclosure under the Open Records Act. Specifically, affidavits gathered during the course of the investigation are attached as exhibits to the final report. These affidavits have been included and summarized in the report. The actual affidavits, however, may be excepted from disclosure. In order to determine whether the information is excepted, the District would be required to request an Attorney General’s opinion. This would delay release of the report. However, if you are willing to narrow the scope of your request to the Investigation Report excluding affidavits gathered during the investigation, the District can release the Summary of the Investigation to you immediately.
Part of the information collected also included documents printed from your website. If acceptable, we will not include the documents, therefore, you will not be charged for those copies.
Please advise if you are willing to receive the Summary, so we can reply promptly.
Sincerely,
Name withheld
Can you believe this bullshit? They are basically refusing to give Pookey & I (the parents of the student involved in the incident the report was about) an unedited copy of the report. Plus, they are implying that we are going to have to PAY for a copy, and they have incorporated copyrighted material from our website without getting our permission to reproduce it for this report. What balls they seem to have! It is starting to look more, and more, likely that we will have to end up talking to a lawyer. *sigh* Fucking bureaucrats.
Pookey will be calling this person on Monday to sort out exactly what they are saying. I’m sure that it will just be a continuation of the clusterfuck this whole incident has been from the beginning. We are also thinking about attending a school board meeting to share our experiences, and our concerns, about how this was handled with the entire board. Though, we’ll probably end up writing them all a registered letter instead. Who knows?
