Just Say “NO!!!” To Bigotry…
It’s truly sad… Proposition 2 (HJR 6) has passed here in Texas. *sigh* For those of you not familiar with proposition 2 here’s a blurb:
Ballot Language
"The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."
Brief Explanation
HJR 6 would provide that marriage in Texas is solely the union of a man and woman, and that the state and its political subdivisions could not create or recognize any legal status identical to or similar to marriage, including such legal status relationships created outside of Texas.
I feel that two consenting adults, regardless of their genders, have a right to marry. No one, especially the government, has a right to stop anyone from doing that. To do so is a gross violation of their civil & constitutional rights. Proposition 2 is basically the Texas state government forcing a religious view on people who do not subscribe to it… I certainly don’t. It’s just another example of the religious right’s attack on the American right to freedom of (or as some see it: freedom from) religion, and is a crying shame. If you’re against same sex marriages, then don’t have one!
One thing I will never understand is why these so called "virtuous" people expend so much effort attacking the gay community. It doesn’t, no matter what they say, harm anyone else that people are gay. To me, love knows no gender, and you should accept it wherever you can find it. True love doesn’t grow on trees! I also feel that people are born gay, and that to deny such an intrinsic part of yourself is to live a lie. Living a lie is a sure way to make your life an unhappy one.
Basically what I am trying to say: If it makes you happy, and doesn’t harm anyone else, it can’t be the wrong thing to do. Aren’t there more serious issues (child abuse, pedophilia, murders, assaults, etc.) in today’s society that call for more of our attention & resources, rather than what two adults choose to do with one another?
